The rental is a rowboat that you propel with oars. It is worth using that description when planning: this is not a kayak or canoe tour, and the reservation you need is for the gorge\u2019s rental boats.<\/p>\n

Online booking opens at 9:00 a.m. two weeks before the ride and closes at 9:00 a.m. two days before it.<\/span> Use the booking window for your actual travel date, rather than assuming you can reserve the evening before arriving.<\/p>\n

Each ride lasts 30 minutes. The standard capacity is three people; up to four are permitted only when the group includes a preschool child. The price changes by date, so read the amount attached to your selected day rather than budgeting from an old fixed-price guide.<\/p>\n

Usual operating hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with final reception at 4:30 p.m. Reception may close earlier depending on waiting times. A late arrival should therefore not be planned around the assumption that the published final reception time guarantees availability.<\/p>\n

Can you buy a ticket on the day?<\/h3>\n

Sometimes, but do not make it the foundation of your trip. Same-day ticket availability depends on advance bookings, and there may be no tickets when reservations have sold out. Parking 3 and Parking 4 have a free first 60 minutes, with charging hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Think about the whole visit before choosing: an hour\u2019s walk plus a boat ride, check-in and lunch is not the same as a brief viewpoint stop.<\/p>\n

A boat booking does not reserve a parking space.<\/strong> There is no dedicated boat-only parking area, and parking cannot be booked. Reception is inside Parking 1; after checking in, you move to the boarding point.<\/p>\n

If attendants direct you to another lot, allow for that walk rather than treating it as a small detail to solve at the last minute. Parking 5 is free, but the association lists about 30 minutes on foot from there to the boarding area.<\/p>\n

That makes price and convenience separate decisions. A free space can suit a walking-focused visit, while a fixed boat appointment calls for closer attention to the time between leaving the car and reaching reception. Follow the on-site directions when a lot is full.<\/p>\n

Driving from Miyazaki or Kumamoto<\/h3>\n

Takachiho is in the mountainous north of Miyazaki Prefecture. The prefecture\u2019s tourism guidance gives approximately 2 hours 15 minutes by car from Miyazaki Airport or Miyazaki Station, and approximately 1 hour 25 minutes from Kumamoto Airport.<\/p>\n

Those are driving estimates. Add your own rest stops and a buffer for traffic and parking before selecting a boat time. In particular, a rental-car collection time is not the same as the time you will be ready to leave the airport area.<\/p>\n
