Yufuin Floral Village + Yufu Silky Road \u2014 A Half-Day Plan for the Hours After Your Onsen Soak<\/span><\/h2>\n

Most guidebooks stop at the onsen. Yufuin has plenty to do once you’re dressed and back on your feet \u2014 you just need to know where to point the car.<\/p>\n

If you only have one afternoon here, two stops carry the day. Yufuin Floral Village<\/strong>, a pocket-sized recreation of an English Cotswolds village tucked halfway along the main tourist street. And the Yufu Silky Road<\/strong>, a narrow forest drive that opens onto an 800-meter viewpoint over the whole basin.<\/p>\n

Starting from Yufuin Station \u2014 the Landmark to Turn At<\/h3>\n

Walk straight out of JR Yufuin Station and follow the main road east. After about 8 to 9 minutes on your left you’ll pass A-Coop Yufuin<\/strong>, a JA-group supermarket that acts as the natural pivot point for first-time visitors.<\/p>\n

Turn there onto Yunotsubo Kaido and the walk continues in one direction all the way to Floral Village. Anchor the route to that supermarket and you won’t get lost.<\/p>\n

Yunotsubo Kaido \u2014 800 Meters of Snacks, Souvenirs, and 70+ Shops<\/h3>\n

The street from Shirataki Bridge to Kinrin Lake runs roughly 800 meters and packs in more than 70 shops<\/strong>. A quick walk-through takes 15 to 20 minutes; add snacks and browsing and you’ll easily lose two hours.<\/p>\n

One local rule matters more than most travelers realize: no eating while walking<\/strong>. Every stall sets aside a small standing or seating area \u2014 buy the croquette, step aside, eat, then keep going.<\/p>\n

For food, the classics are B-speak<\/strong> (a premium P-roll cake often booked out in advance), Kinsho Croquette<\/strong> (from around 100 yen), Yufuin Pudding<\/strong> made with local Yufuin milk, and Yufuin Milch<\/strong> for kasekuchen-style cheese cake. Canel\u00e9s and matcha gelato have been the fast-rising newcomers of the past couple of years.<\/p>\n

To dodge the crush, aim for before 10 a.m.<\/span> on weekends and holidays. After that, the street fills quickly through the lunch peak.<\/p>\n

Yufuin Floral Village \u2014 an English Storybook Village in Miniature<\/h2>\n

About halfway down Yunotsubo Kaido, a corner of what looks like rural England appears on the left. That’s Yufuin Floral Village<\/strong>, built around a Cotswolds theme and now one of the town’s most photographed spots.<\/p>\n

Stone walls, thatched roofs, ivy climbing every surface, a little central square. It photographs like an illustrated children’s book \u2014 largely because it was designed to.<\/p>\n

The most useful thing to know: entry itself is free<\/strong>. You can wander in, take photos, browse the shops, and leave without paying anything. Only a handful of experience venues inside carry a separate fee.<\/p>\n
